Easter habits nearby Bug and Narew rivers

During Prowody (orthodox All Souls' Day), a week after Easter, people went to a cemetery where after celebrating prayers for souls by a priest, they feasted near graves of the dead, leaving remnants of food to the spirits of their ancestors and for the poor. A current practice was to give alms to beggars in cemeteries so as they pray for souls of the dead. Moving away, people left on graves painted eggs (kraszanki).
It was mandatory to make scrambled eggs in the evening and ate them with the holy „paska”. After supper older boys startet to race. They ran through a whole village „on w'yperedki”. It was believed that who first comes to the end of the village, this one will be the best reaper.
